There’s a little girl in a yellow raincoat sitting on a hollowed out log. The ground squishes beneath my feet, full of rotting leaves and mud, as I approach. A spotted frog hops over her foot. She squeals and jumps up. She points at the frog. “He used to be a fairy.” I shove my hands into my pocket. “What happened?” “He fought a mean witch.” The frog hops onto my sneaker. Daisy stared out her window. Buttery yellow dandelions roared on her hillside. She let out a giggle and waved to them. A cloud puffed over the horizon, gray and anxious. It puffed out it chest before collapsing into a myriad of tears. Daisy ran out to the field, an umbrella covering her shoes from the mud. She laid the handle over the dandelions. They mewled as little droplets hit them in the face. One shook itself off, splattering the one next to it. Daisy giggled and then ran back inside. She fell asleep to the sound of rain and woke up to a garden of wilted flowers.

Old leaves fall out of his mouth when he coughs. His head droops to the side. When he brushes away the leaves, he can feel the coarseness of his skin. When I wake it is on a hardwood floor and in a dress so tight it hurts to breath. I gasp and the air whistles in. There is an inhaler next to a tipped over wine bottle. I reach for it with finely manicured nails, chipped at the ends. Now I can breathe. I scan the room. It is mostly empty. No pictures or personal artefacts. Flash Fiction Month

Welcome! As some of you know. I've been participating in FMM for the past 4(?) years. Since I've gotten incredibly busy my participation is going to sporadic at best but I will try my best! Failure is not an option. This month is just going to be nice and casual. Hopefully some decent short stories will come out of it. I just felt like I should put an explanation out into the void (in case someone is listening). VIVA! (and have a nice day)
